ARE WE SURE JESUS IS GOD?

Here's the deal: I cannot convince you of anything you don't either already believe, or at least willing to believe. And there is this as well: I'm going to be using the bible for my proof. If you do not believe that the bible is the Truth, the Word of God, then there is not going to be anything here to convince you of what I already know. If you even have the slightest doubt about the bible, I suggest you read it for yourself. After all, the bible is not going to lead you into the wrong direction. You will know more about what you are making a choice about. Isn't that what you want? To make an informed choice?

If you are still reading, we are going to get right to what you want: Proof that Jesus is Lord God Almighty.

- MATTHEW 3:16-17 "As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, 'This is my Son, in whom I love; with Him I am well pleased.'"
- MARK 1:9-11 "At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John the Jordan. As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: 'You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.'"
- LUKE 3:21-22 "When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: 'You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.'"
All four of the gospels testify about what was seen when Jesus was baptized. There were people there being baptized that saw this event take place. There were many other things that were seen, some were things done by Jesus. I am going to go through some of them.
Let's go to the begining, the birth of Jesus.
- MATTHEW 1:18-21 "This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, 'Joseph son of David, do not be affraid to take Mary as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.'"
- LUKE 1:26-38 "In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin's name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, 'Greetings, you are highly favored! The Lord is with you.' Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, 'Do not be affaid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.' 'How will this be,' Mary asked the angel, 'since I am a virgin?' The angel answered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.' 'I am the Lord's servant,' Mary answered, 'May it be to me as you have said.' And the angel left her."
Above are the two accounts of the conception of Jesus as flesh and blood. Can you imagine what it would have been like for Joseph to find that his virgin wife was with child-not by him? I'm sure that he was deeply troubled as he was considering a divorce to the woman that he loved. God knows when we are troubled and He sends us Help, though we may not know it when it comes. I don't think Joseph or Mary had any doubt about it though.
We are told of more to come:
- JOHN 1:50-51 "Jesus said, 'You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that.' He then added, 'I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.'"
The first miraculous thing Jesus did was the turning of water into wine. He says that His time has not yet come but He still does this and as you will read, it affected His disciples.
- JOHN 2:1-11 "On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and His disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to Him, 'They have no more wine.' 'Dear woman, why do you involve me?' Jesus replied. 'My time has not yet come.' His mother said to the servants, 'Do whatever He tells you.' Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, 'Fill the jars with water'; so they filled them to the brim. Then He told them, 'Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.' They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it came from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, 'Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.' This, the first of His miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed His glory, and His disciples put their faith in Him."
I have not seen any of these things that are talked about, but I know that Jesus is Lord. I know this because I feel it in my heart and the Word tells me so. My life was saved, not from blindness (or maybe it was) or from what just about anyone today would call a demonic possession (maybe?). I was saved from being the lost and lonely person that I was. My demon was drugs and it had me, you can read about that on another page. One day I was relieved of the obsession. I was saved. I don't know why I was saved but I know Who saved me, and you can ask anyone that knew me, it is a miracle that I am free of drugs and on this path. I was hopeless, all my family and friends knew this to be true. But let's get back to what was done while He was here on earth.
- MATTHEW 4:23-25 "Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about Him spread all over Syria, and people brought to Him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralized, and He healed them. Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed Him."
- JOHN 4:46-54 "Once more He visited Cana in Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to Him and begged Him to come and heal his son, who was close to death. 'Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders,' Jesus told him, 'you will never believe.' The royal official said, 'Sir, come down before my child dies.' Jesus replied, 'You may go. Your son will live.' The man took Jesus at His word and departed. While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, 'The fever left him yesterday at the seventh hour.' Then his father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, 'Your son will live.' So he and all his household believed. This was the second miraculous sign that Jesus performed, having come from Judea to Galilee."
As you will see, I don't have them all in the right order, that is not really my goal here. I just want to get some of the wonders that Jesus did while He was here down for us to look at. I want also to show how He felt the pain that those around Him felt when someone lost a loved one and I will be outlining this as well. Because I know there are those that feel that God does not feel our pain or know our suffering. I just want it to be known that He does, that He has counted every tear we have shed. It is important to me to know that God feels-with me-my pain, it might be to you as well.
- MARK 1:21-28 "They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. The people were amazed at His teaching, because He taught them with as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out, 'What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!' 'Be quiet!' said Jesus sternly. 'Come out of him!' The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, 'What is this? A new teaching-and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey Him.' News about Him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee."
- LUKE 4:31-37 "Then He went down to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and on the Sabbath began to teach the people. They were amaxed at His teaching, because His message had authority. In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an evil spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 'Ha! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are-the Holy One of God!' 'Be quiet!' Jesus said sternly. 'Come out of him!' Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him. All the people were amazed and said to each other, 'What is this teaching? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out!' And the news about Him spread throughout the surrounding area."
- LUKE 4:38-41 "Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon's mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her. So He bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them. When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them. Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, 'You are the Son of God!' But He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ."
Luke is filled with the miracles that Jesus did while He was here on earth, as are the other three gospels. It's amazing that all these things were done throughout the land and still there was so much denial among the leaders and teachers of the law.
- MATTHEW 8:1-4 "When He came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed Him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before Him and said, 'Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.' Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. 'I am willing,' He said. 'Be clean!' Immediatly he was cured of his leprosy. Then Jesus said to him, 'See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.'
- MATTHEW 8:23-27 "Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed Him, Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The dieciples went and woke Him saying, 'Lord, save us! We're going to drown!' He replied, 'You of little faith, why are you so affraid?' Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, 'what kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey Him!'"
- MATTHEW 8:28-34 "When He arrived at the other side in the region of Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met Him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 'What do you want with us, Son of God?' they shouted. 'Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?' Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. The demons begged Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.' He said to them, 'Go!' So they came out and went into the herd of pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all of this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. Then the whole town went down to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they pleaded with Him to leave their region."
- LUKE 8:40-48 "Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed Him, for they were all expecting Him. Then a man named Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, came and fell at Jesus' feet, pleading with Him to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying. As Jesus was on His way, the crowds almost crushed Him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind Him and touched the edge of His cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. 'Who touched me?' Jesus asked. When they all deied it, Peter said, 'Mater, the people are crowding and pressing against you.' But Jesus said, 'Someone touched Me; I know that power has gone out from Me.' Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at His feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched Him and how she had been instantly healed. Then He said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.'"
Let's have a look at what Jesus said about Himself. There are those that say He never said He was God or even the Son of God. And I just want to clear that up. You see, for a while I also said this-without having read the bible. Now having gained information I want it to be put out plain and straight for all to see. And I want you to look it up yourself, don't just take my word for it. Many people say many things, the Word of God will always set you straight.
IS HE LORD?
- MARK 5:18-20 "As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged to go with Him. Jesus did not let him, but said, 'Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.' So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed."
- JOHN 13:12-20 "When He had finished washing their feet, He put on His clothes and returned to His place. 'Do you understand what I have done for you?' He asked them. 'You call me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture: He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me. I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He. I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.'"
- JOHN 20:26-31 "A week later His disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, 'Peace be with you!' Then He said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out you hand and put in into my side. Stop doubting and believe.' Thomas said to Him, 'My Lord and my God!' Then Jesus told him, 'Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.' Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name."
IS HE THE SON OF GOD?
- MATTHEW 11:27 "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and so no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."
- MATTHEW 16:15:-20 "'But what about you?' He asked, 'Who do you say I am?' Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Christ, Son of the living God.' Jesus replied, 'Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.' Then He warned His disciples not to tell anyone that He was the Christ."
- MARK 3:10-12 "For He had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch Him. Whever the evil spirits saw Him, they fell down before Him and cried out, 'You are the Son of God.' But He gave them strict orders not to tell who He was."
- MARK 14:60-62 "Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, 'Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?' But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked Him, 'Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?' 'I am,' said Jesus. 'And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.'"
- LUKE 10:21-22 "At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, 'I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.'"
- JOHN 5:16-18 "So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted Him. Jesus said to them, 'My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I, too, am working.' For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him; not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God."
- JOHN 6:38-40 "For I have come down from heaven not to do My will but to do the will of Him that sent Me. And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that I shall lose none of all that He has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."
- JOHN 10:36-38 "-what about the one whom the Father set apart as His very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, I am God's Son? Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does. But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father."
- JOHN 11:4 "When He heard this, Jesus said, 'This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God's glory so that God's Son may be glorified through it.'"
- JOHN 17:1-5 "After Jesus said this, He looked toward heaven and prayed: 'Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted Him authority over all people that He might give eternal life to those you have given Him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.'"
IS HE OUR SAVIOR?
- LUKE 19:9-10 "Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.'"
- JOHN 3:17-18 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."
- JOHN 10:7-10 "Therefore Jesus said again, 'I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The trief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.'"
If you were to read the bible and to study on the things that Jesus said and did, you would surely see He was like no one that has ever been before. He offered a new teaching of the Word, a promise of the kingdom that is soon coming, and a way that we as sinful people could be reconciled to God. He gave us an example of what it is to be righteous. Where we were condemned by the Law, convicted by our sins, we were given redemption through the price paid by Lord Jesus Christ.
I would like to start this next page on the things that were seen and done after Jesus died on the cross. Would you like to join me?
